District Attorney Hillar Moore is a proven, experienced leader who has spent nearly two decades fighting to keep East Baton Rouge Parish safe.

For 17 years, District Attorney Moore has led the District Attorney’s Office with a clear mission: aggressively prosecute violent criminals, support law enforcement, protect victims, and pursue innovative strategies that reduce crime and strengthen communities. His leadership has earned him a reputation as one of Louisiana’s most respected and effective prosecutors.

Under District Attorney Hillar Moore’s leadership, the District Attorney’s Office has prioritized the prosecution of violent offenders, gang members, repeat criminals, and those responsible for serious crimes such as murder and sexual assault. He created specialized prosecution units focused on violent crime, crime strategy coordination, and human trafficking investigations to better target dangerous offenders and improve public safety outcomes across the parish.

District Attorney Moore has also led efforts to address the root causes of crime through innovative community partnerships and prevention programs. His work supporting domestic violence intervention initiatives helped contribute to a significant reduction in domestic violence deaths in East Baton Rouge Parish. He has also championed programs focused on youth violence prevention, opioid response, and second-chance opportunities that help individuals rebuild productive lives.

A graduate of LSU with a degree in Criminal Justice and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Southern University Law Center, District Attorney Moore has devoted his career to public service and the pursuit of justice. His leadership and professional accomplishments have earned him induction into both the Southern University Law Center Hall of Fame and the LSU Alumni Hall of Distinction.

Beyond the courtroom, Hillar is a devoted husband, father, and community leader. He and his wife Dawn have been married for more than 40 years and are proud parents of three children.
